3Generate: 4th - 6th October 2024
Young people from The Square again attended 3Generate – the Methodist Church Natonal Youth Event held in Birmingham at the NEC. There were 11 young people plus leaders, including four first-timers. We were part of a larger group from the South Beds Circuit, representing four churches and making a total of 24 young people. This was almost double the number we took last year and reflects the growing nature of 3Generate as a whole, with 1,000 delegates in 2023 compared to 1,600 delegates this year.
There really is something for everyone, as these post-event comments from the young people demonstrate:
“I really enjoyed the arts and crafts” (repurposing old clothes)
“I enjoyed the tech room because I interacted with other people.”
"I enjoyed The Wilderness – it teaches about God and you get a chance to get closer to God.”
"I enjoyed drama and dancing.”
“I really enjoyed the Agent of Change chat. It was inspiring to know how to make a change in the world in different ways.”
“We should invite the Methodist Band to have a concert in Luton.”
“I enjoyed being with my friend.”
“Going to meet my old friends from last year. Time to worship.”
“I enjoyed being with my friends and talking to new people and making friends.”
“I enjoyed the feeling of community at 3Gen, especially the sports as there were others my age playing sports together.”
“I fell (playing football) but God helped me to stand up and keep playing. I liked the teamwork and helping each other and I liked learning about God too.”
“Being at 3Gen made us feel less isolated in our beliefs – part of something bigger.”
“I feel less shy of telling people about my faith and can be more open about believing in God.”
This year (2025) there are 31 young people booked to go to 3Gen from our Circuit, with 16 of those from The Square. I am sure it will be another great (if tiring) experience for us all.
